William Lee Ellis, Sr.

William Lee Ellis, Sr. was born on January 7, 1943, to the late Johnnie James Ellis and Pauline Smith Ellis in Nash County, North Carolina. He transitioned from his residence on Sunday, February 6, 2022 with the words “I LOVE YOU”. 
William received his education in the Nash County Public Schools System. He later met the sweet love of his life Martha Ann Taylor and on August 6, 1965 the lovebirds became one. To this union, God blessed them with three sons. 
William through the course of his career worked for The University of Maryland (18 years), Black & Decker of Tarboro, NC (retired after 25 years), Ilco Unican of Rocky Mount, NC (10 years) and Piggly Wiggly of Rocky Mount, NC (8 years). He was known to never be late for work by his fellow colleagues. 
Williams was preceded in death by three brothers, James Ellis, Charles Ellis and Daniel “Doug” Ellis, four brother-in-laws and five sister-in-laws. 
William leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years Martha Ann Ellis; one daughter, Lora Ann Ellis; three sons, William Ellis, Jr. (Valinda), Donell Ellis and Demitures Ellis (Vangie); five brothers, Roscoe Ellis, Bobby Ellis (Sadie), Larry Ellis (Barbara), Danny Ellis (Brenda) and Joe Ellis (Thelma); two sisters, Lillian Ellis and Constance Jones; grandchildren, William Ellis III (Shatonya), Dachia Staton, Ma’Lek Ellis, Miracle Marshell, Michael Ellis, Kristina Ellis, KaNeisha Battle, and DeVon Ellis; two special great-grandchildren that spent a lot of time with their “PaPa”, Zion Ellis and Khyla Staton; Troy and Connie Bobbitt affectionately known as his children also; three godchildren, Denise Battle (Marcus), Ruth Ann Melton and Andre Outlaw; special friend of the family for over 55 years, Martha Outlaw, and a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends
