Susie Eley-Coley Obituary

Susie (Sue) Mae Eley-Coley was born in The Oak Level Community of Nashville, North Carolina on Saturday, June 14, 1958, to the late Mr. Herman Eley and Mrs. Lucy V. Conyers Eley.

Sue started her education in Newark, New Jersey with continuous studies at Rocky Mount Senior High School and Edgecomb Community College of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Sue was a vibrant, lively and outgoing person that left us to soon. She was the backbone of the family, especially to her siblings. Sue would make sure she called each of them every morning before 6:30 am.  Even in the midst of sickness not able to speak, she would communicate by knocking on the phone, table or moan to let us know she was there.

Sue was determined to walk and speak again (And she did). The day before her transition, Sue walked in the church on Sunday June 21, 2026, and shouted, "Sue is in the house". Sue accepted Jesus Christ early in life and was a faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, North Carolina under the care of Pastor Rodney Avent Sr.

Sue did not have any children, but she helped raise many of her nieces, nephews, stepchildren and grandchildren who called her auntie, grandma and ma.

Sue loved her bright colors. She always dressed to impress with matching wigs, shoes and attire that complimented her personality.

Sue entered into her eternal rest on Monday, June 22, 2026, after a brief illness. Along with her beloved parents; stepmother, Barbara Eley; husband, Antonio Coley; one brother, Herman
Eley Jr.; two nephews, Elwood Eley and Ossie Dunston preceded her in death.

Sue leaves a lifetime of treasured memories to her siblings, Irma Eley, Connie Eley-Lyons (Johnnie), Corarene Eley all of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Angela Yarborough (Louis) of
Franklinton, North Carolina, Tracy Eley (Lyndella), Zerek Keith Eley, Terrence Eley, Richard Teasley, Cassandra Logan, Kim Hall all of New Jersey, Joseph Teasley (Robin) of Durham,
North Carolina; two special nephews, Janicento Williamson (Nikki) and Martrace Dunston; she will also be dearly missed by a special lady, whom she called Mama (Mom Mildred) and a host of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
