Jonas Earl Williams aka "Monk"

Jonas Earl Williams, aka Monk,  son of the late Otis Williams, Sr. and Sarah Beatrice Coley Williams, was born June 11, 1946 in Nash County, Whitakers, North Carolina.

Monk transitioned to receive his crown on Sunday, May 16, 2021 surrounded by family and friends.

Monk attended the public school systems of Nash and Edgecombe counties. During that particular time, he had to leave school in order to help the family do farm work. Later on the family moved to Rocky Mount after many years.

Monk was employed with the Rocky Mount Coca Cola Bottling Company for more than twenty-seven years. He was always considered to be the life of the crowd especially during family reunions and other social gatherings. In the midst of it all, he enjoyed life to the fullest regardless.  He was a faithful member of the Hillside Social Club providing many different levels of community assistance to those in need.

Monk was preceded in death by one brother, James Lindbergh Williams; four sisters, Rosa Williams Johnson, Catherine Williams, Rodessa Williams Green and Betty Louise Williams Davis.

Monk leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of fifty-five years, Carolyn B. Williams; three sons, Eric (Tina) Battle, Eugene (Karen) Lyons and Titus (Monica) Rhoades; three brothers, Otis (Doretha) Williams, Jr., Charles (Margaret) Williams, Sr. and Lloyd (Elecsta) Lyons; one sister; Helen Williams Horne; two brothers-in-law, Robert Battle and Donell (Brenda) Battle; four sisters-in-law, Esther (Daniel) Henry, Carolyn Rayner, Ann Smith and Willie Bennett; several grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
