SISTER ADRIENNE SMITH

Adrienne Smith – also known as “Big A” was born on February 3, 1968 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Clarence Debnam and Shirley Jones.

She attended the Paterson Board of Education Public School System where she graduated with high honors at P.S. #24 in 1982 and at the top of her class at John F. Kennedy High School in 1986.

Adrienne was employed by Wanaque Convalescent Center in Pompton Lakes, NJ for over 26 years until her retirement in 2016.  A few years later, she began two new careers as a Meal Monitor at the Paterson Board of Education and as a Mentor Counselor at the Paterson Boys & Girls Club in Paterson, NJ.   

She was a dedicated and active member for over 50 years at Unity Missionary Church in Paterson, NJ under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Ethel Bland.  While at Unity Missionary Church, she was a faithful member of the Jr. Choir, Voices Choir, Bible Study Class, Usher Board and President of the Community Outreach Department.  She was a true child of God.

Adrienne married Ralph Smith in 2007 and from this union, they were able to combine their beautiful families.

In 2018, Adrienne and Ralph moved their family and started new roots in Rocky Mount, NC.  The family became committed members of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, NC under the leadership of Rev. Dr. James T. Worthy.

Our precious angel was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Adrienne leaves to cherish her phenomenal and extraordinary memories, her loyal and devoted husband Ralph.  He was her crème of the crop and love of her life who put a smile on her face each and everyday; her loving children Clarence Jones of Paterson, NJ, Shikena Kyte Jr. and Cyrus Jones both of Prospect Park, NJ, Dabarr Jones of Paterson, NJ, June’e Jones, EmyjaJones, Taz’meek Jones and Armyni Jones all of Rocky Mount, NC; step-daughter Latoya Grant of Gates County, NC; her ambitious and brilliant 21 grands and 3 step-grands; her siblings Frieda Ray (Eddie) of Passaic, NJ, Victoria Rollins (Henry) of Paterson, NJ, Richard Jones (Alice) of Elmwood Park, NJ, Linda Lowery (Kenneth) of Norristown, PA, and Barbara Jones-Lewis (Rodney) of Rocky Mount, NC; in-laws Curtis Smith (Connie), Kenneth Smith, Walter Edmonds (Sharron), Larry Shoulars (Delois), Ricky Shoulars, Jerome Shoulars (Lisa), Jimmy Shoulars (Evelyn), Joanette Holloman (Redgie), Brenda Joyner (Larry), Brenda Winfrey, Joyce Eason, Genora Wood (Willis), Nellie White (Jonathan), Patricia Harrison; and a host of kindhearted nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends in which she really loved.
