Samuel received his education from The Rocky Mount Public School System. He later became a strong Community Activist for
Nash & Edgecombe Counties and did not have a problem making his voice heard. During his life, he worked for various employers in
North Carolina, but his most memorable was helping people throughout the community at large.
Samuel loved sports and made it known that The Dallas Cowboys & The Carolina Tarheels were the true and only way to go. Samuel preceded in transition from earth by Mattie J. Daniels
and Luraline Cooper along with other family members.
Samuel leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Alice Denise Whitaker; two daughters, Rashika (Archie) Downey and Shaniqua Battle; three sons, Roderick Workman, Rashad Jones and Treysawn
Wiggins; parents, Samuel Jerome Cooper and Evangeline Battle; five brothers, Terrance Battle, Maurice Battle, Christopher Battle, Christopher Johnson and Terrell Gaines; two sisters, Yolonda Johnson and Tasha Murray; maternal grandfather, Otis (Doretha) Williams, Jr.; four grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Kelley; a special niece Felicia Parker and a special nephew Robert Baines; a large host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many devoted friends.
